Our work

Helping an energy drink leader optimise in-store influence across EMEA

A leading energy drink brand partnered with 2CV to strengthen its position as a category expert across EMEA markets and better understand how shoppers make decisions in-store.

By uncovering the impact of different retail interventions on consumer behaviour, we helped the brand identify where to focus investment to maximise sales performance and retailer value.

Market: EMEA

The Challenge

The client wanted to increase its influence across the shopper journey and grow share within a rapidly expanding category.

To achieve this, the business needed a deeper understanding of how different in-store levers, from shelving and signage to branded fixtures, influenced shopper behaviour and purchase decisions across diverse retail environments.

The challenge was to move beyond assumptions and generate robust evidence that could guide future retail investment.

Our approach

We surveyed more than 8,000 consumers across seven EMEA markets, combining behavioural insight with innovative virtual store testing.

Our work included:

  • Measuring both conscious and subconscious shopper responses
  • Testing multiple marketing interventions across different stages of the shopper journey
  • Evaluating performance across varying retail formats and market conditions
  • Using advanced monadic testing to isolate the impact of individual interventions

This approach created a scalable and consistent way to understand how shoppers responded to different retail environments.

The Results

Evidence-based retail toolkit

Delivered a clear framework for retailers and commercial teams to optimise product placement and in-store visibility.

Smarter investment decisions

Identified which interventions generated the greatest behavioural impact across different retail environments.

Stronger sales opportunities

Provided actionable recommendations to improve shopper conversion and drive category growth for both the brand and its retail partners.

The bold decision

Rather than testing interventions in live store environments where multiple variables can influence behaviour, we recreated physical stores through immersive digital simulations.

Respondents navigated the virtual stores as if they were shopping naturally, allowing us to measure attention and behavioural responses to different shelf formats, signage and branded coolers in real time.

This enabled the client to test multiple retail formats across markets efficiently and at scale.
